About the Workshop

We will use simple exercises and discussion to explore the heart of what makes a clown.

We will discuss the role of clowns in history and culture and how a stylized figure like a clown can represent every one of us.

We will attempt to push down some of the walls we build to protect ourselves from looking foolish and reveal the beautiful, silly, vulnerable humanity in each of us that clowns can help us see.

Feeling nervous or hesitant?
Don't be! My workshop will provide a welcoming, no-pressure environment for people of all experience levels to explore, learn, and have fun.

Local actor and clown extraordinaire Matthew Pauli will lead you through a workshop teaching the basics of clowning in a fun interactive style. Matthew is a graduate of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College, has toured with The Big Apple Circus, and is a founding member of Clown Cabaret, a D.C. based monthly performance laboratory.

The Wild Party features Burrs, a "clown of some renown," but what does that actually entail? Join us before the Thursday, October 19th performance of The Wild Party to learn just what it takes to "act a clown."
