Constellation Theatre Company has canceled our spring production of Sarah Ruhl’s Eurydice due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. We were all looking forward to seeing this beautiful show come to life, but with rehearsals scheduled to begin on March 30, we knew we had to put the health and safety of our community first.

Despite the financial strain that this decision places on our organization, Constellation is paying all of the actors, designers, and technicians contracted for Eurydice their full fee for the production - a total of $51,711. Donated ticket proceeds will go directly toward supporting these talented artists who depend on income from theatres for their livelihoods.

Although Eurydice will not perform this season, we want to share with you the incredible creative vision that director Mary Hall Surface and her team of designers have carefully crafted over the last seven months.

Eurydice

by Sarah Ruhl

From the acclaimed playwright of last season’s Helen Hayes-nominated Melancholy Play: A Contemporary Farce comes a fresh reimagining of the classic Orpheus myth, told through the eyes of its heroine.

On her wedding day, Eurydice falls victim to a tragic accident that sends her hurtling into the Underworld, erasing her memory and reuniting her with her long-dead father. Orpheus journeys to retrieve his bride, but Eurydice is torn between her desire to rejoin him in the real world and the tender relationship she has rediscovered with her father in the afterlife.

Brimming with lyrical beauty, original music, and Ruhl’s trademark wit, Eurydice is a visceral and surrealist meditation on love worth grieving for.
